Shrubs

Property owners are responsible for replacing landscaping that they remove or that dies, including lawns, trees and shrubs.

The below reference guide contains a list of shrubs and groundcovers that are recommended to use when planting. Please visit a landscape nursery for other shrubs and groundcover species. If there are any questions, please contact City Forester, Casey Lee at 954-344-1117.

  • Clusia
  • Cocoplum -Redtip or Green
  • Green Arboricola
  • Green Buttonwood
  • Podocarpus
  • Variegated Arboricola
  • Viburnum - Many Varieties

This list of suggested groundcover  are great to attract butterflies.

  • Blue Porterweed
  • Cassia
  • Coontie
  • Firebush
  • Firespike
  • Jatropha
  • Lantana
  • Milkweed
  • Plumbago
  • Purple Passion Vine

Requirements:

  • Florida Grade #1 quality or better
  • 18”– 24” Minimum height at time of planting.
  • 18”– 24” Minimum spread at time of planting.
  • Usually planted 18” – 24” on center.
  • Shrubs can grow very tall if not properly sheared.
  • Maximum shrub heights:
    • 4‘ front yard
    • 10’ rear yard
    • 10’ side interior yard
    • 6’ street side yard

Lawns must be kept trimmed to less than eight inches in height.

Suggested lawn types:

  • St. Augustine
  • Bermuda Sod
  • Bahia Sod
  • Zoysia Sod
  • No artificial grass permitted in front yard.
