Tree Replacement

Tree Illustration Removed trees should be replaced with like trees within 6 months of permit approval. Shade trees should be replaced with shade trees, palms trees with palm trees and small trees with small trees or three separate palms can equal one hardwood.

Measuring Diameter
Tree diameter is measured at 4.5' ft. above ground. In many cases the easiest way to determine the diameter of a tree trunk is to use a regular tape measure to determine the circumference of a tree and use the following formula to convert the measurement to diameter:

  • Diameter = Circumference x .31831 for example a Live Oak with a 45 in. circumference would have a diameter of 14.3 in.
  • If your tree is more than 18 inches in diameter please contact the City Forester at 954-344-1117 to determine if your tree falls into the category of a "specimen tree".
