Evidence Unit
The Coral Springs Police Department Evidence Unit receives, catalogs and stores evidentiary, abandoned, forfeited and found property in accordance with state and local laws. The Evidence Unit stores more than 49,000 items including bicycles, jewelry, office equipment, luggage, household items, electronic equipment and more. If you have property that, by law, is held by the Evidence Unit but now may be returned to you, please see “Claiming Your Property” below for instructions on retrieving your property.
What are the Evidence Unit's operating hours and location?
Property pick-up is only on Wednesday’s from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Please call ahead to set up an appointment to pick up your items. 954-346-1236 The Police Department is located at 2801 Coral Springs Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33065.
Claiming Your Property
Items classified as "Found" or "Safekeeping" (with the exception of firearms) may be claimed on Wednesday’s 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Appointments are encouraged for faster service. Items classified as Evidence are governed by special conditions.
Found Property
If you are listed as the owner on the property receipt, please present the receipt with the case number on it and a valid photo ID. If you are not listed as the owner, you must contact the Officer and present them with proof of ownership, (for example, a bill of sale from the store where you purchased the item or a notarized bill of sale if the item was purchased from a private individual). When this is complete, we may return the property if approved by the Officer.
Claiming Found Property
The finder must deposit $30.00 in the lobby of the Coral Springs Police Department within 90 days. The fee must be in the form of a cash or money order made payable to the Coral Springs Police Department. No other form of payment is acceptable.
You can claim the property after 90 days if owner not located. (If the item needs to be placed in a newspaper ad, it may surpass the 90 days.) You will receive the $30.00 dollars back if the true owner is located.
*You cannot claim found firearms or contraband.
If a Court Order is requested
To obtain a court order, a private attorney can arrange for a court order, or you can contact the Clerk of the Courts office at the Broward County Courthouse and request a Demand for Hearing packet. Once the packet is filled out and returned, the Clerk's office will schedule a date for a hearing. For more information, see the Clerk of the Court's web site
Online Auctions
After certain periods of time specified by law, the Evidence Unit may dispose of property that is no longer required to be stored. The Coral Springs Police Department may sell the property online at www.propertyroom.com, an online auction site specializing in property from police agencies across the country. Interested persons may view the items and submit their bids by logging onto www.propertyroom.com. All sales are subject to bidder's responsibility for shipping and handling. All sales are final. Evidence Property
You must contact the Officer or Detective assigned to the case for approval. You may have to wait until the case is concluded.
Items are disposed of after 60 days of the conclusion of the case if not claimed, Per Florida State Statute.
Per Florida statute 925.11 and 925.12, if the suspect in a felony case is found guilty by jury or if they plead in court, the property must be held until the sentence has been fully served, regardless of who owns the property. If the suspect was "Acquitted" of all charges, the property can be released with authorization from the Detective or Officer responsible for the case. A certified copy of a court order can also release the property with prior review and approval.
Next of Kin Claiming Property
Property can only be released to a legal spouse or parent of a minor child after authorization from the investigating Detective. Other family members wishing to claim this property must present a letter of administration from a probate court appointing you as an authorized person to collect property.

Safekeeping Property (Excluding Firearms)
Please contact the Evidence Unit to make sure authorization has been received prior to arrival. A valid photo ID will be required when you pick up the property. It is the policy of the Coral Springs Police Department that Safekeeping property is held for 90 days and must be picked up within this time. Otherwise, it will be disposed of after the 90 days.
Property can be released with an authorization from the Detective or Officer responsible for the case. A certified copy of a court order can also release the property with prior review and approval.

Claiming Firearms
The release of firearms is governed by how the weapon is classified: Evidence, Safekeeping, Found Property or Risk Protection Order. If you are uncertain as to the classification assigned to your property, check with the Detective or Officer who is handling the case. If you need more information regarding the release of firearms and weapons, contact the Evidence Unit at 954-346-1236.
Firearms may not be released to a convicted felon, along with other reasons outlined in the Florida State Statute 790. If there is any question about the adjudication of a charge(s), the weapon will not be released until the issue is resolved. An FDLE background check will be completed on the owner of the firearm.
Ammunition is returned the following week, the firearm was returned. The Evidence Unit does not release the firearm and ammunition on the same date, due to safety concerns. The ammunition will need to be picked up the following week, if not, the ammunition will be destroyed.

If you do not see the answer you are looking for, please contact the Coral Springs Police Department at 954-346-1236. Valid photo identification is required for the pick-up of all items. Please call ahead to set up an appointment to retrieve your property.
Can someone other than myself pick up my property?
Yes, however that person must have signed, written authorization from you (naming that person as the recipient) to pick up your property. The notarized document needs to be reviewed prior to picking up the items. Your signature MUST be notarized. The recipient must also show a valid photo ID to retrieve your property.
I've been notified that you have property of mine and I no longer want it. What should I do?
Please send us a letter stating that you no longer want the property or give us a call and we will dispose of the items for you. If the item is sold at auction, however, you are not entitled to any of the proceeds.
Can I claim something that I found and turned in to Coral Springs Police Department?
Yes, providing that certain conditions are met. Check our “Claiming Your Property” for information on these conditions.
If Proof of Ownership is required, what do I need to do?
Please make arrangements with the Officer on the case.
Does Coral Springs Police Department donate unclaimed bicycles to charitable organizations?
Yes. CSPD donates the bicycles to Church by the Glades, located in Coral Springs. Bicycles are repaired to working conditions by a team at Church by the Glades and given back to the Community.
