Captain Chantel Mears, Community Services Component

Captain Chantel Mears currently serves as one of the Captains assigned to the Community Services Component. Her direct areas of responsibility within the component include the Youth Liaison Unit and Community Involvement. In addition to these daily responsibilities, Captain Mears serves as the Team Leader for the department’s Honor Guard and oversees the chaplains and citizen volunteers serving within the department.

Captain Mears joined the Coral Springs Police Department in 2009, where she served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and RAD Instructor. In 2014, she was selected as a Property Crimes Detective and joined the CSPD Honor Guard. She has also served as a member of the Peer Support Team.

Captain Mears was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2021, where she began supervising a Patrol Squad, affectionately known as “The Power Squad.” In 2024, she transferred to the Criminal Investigations Component to oversee the General Investigations Unit (Property Crimes). She remained in this position until her promotion to the rank of Captain in November 2025.

Captain Mears is a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 2002 to 2008 as a Munitions Systems Journeyman. Following her honorable discharge, she joined the Davie Police Department, where she served from 2008 to 2009 before joining the Coral Springs Police Department.

Throughout her career, Captain Mears has earned numerous departmental recognitions, including one Administrative Service Commendation, four Exceptional Police Initiative Commendations, nine Team Citations, and one Community Involvement Commendation. She has also received three Letters of Commendation and thirteen Letters of Appreciation. In 2016, she was a member of the agency’s Unit of the Year.

Captain Mears holds an Associate of Applied Science degree from the United States Air Force, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Finance from Columbia Southern University, and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University.
