Soccer Program FAQ
Agreement & Program Administration
Is the city eliminating youth soccer programs?
No. The City of Coral Springs is not eliminating youth soccer programs. The city’s priority is to provide high-quality soccer opportunities while protecting public facilities, improving operations, and ensuring long-term sustainability for the community.
Why did the city issue a new RFP for soccer programming?
On March 24, 2026, the city cancelled the Request for Proposals (RFP) originally issued in January 2026 to allow for refinement of the program’s scope and structure. A subsequent Commission workshop held on March 26, 2026, included a presentation by Deputy City Manager Brad McKeone outlining a revised approach focused on Development and Travel Soccer programming.
This initiative builds on the city’s previous RFP issued in 2019, which resulted in the current agreement with Springs Soccer Club. That contract expired on March 30, 2026. In response, the city reissued a new RFP on April 3, 2026, incorporating an updated scope of services that places greater emphasis on establishing a consistent brand identity and addressing long-term contract stability.
The revised scope is designed to provide the city with greater control over program branding and naming, while also reducing the need for frequent contract renewals. This approach supports continuity for participants by minimizing disruptions, such as changes in coaching or program structure.
Who was awarded the agreement from the recent Travel Soccer RFP?
RLC LLC was selected by the evaluation committee and recommended to the City Commission for approval. The agreement was approved by the City Commission on May 6, 2026.
Will recreational soccer change?
Recreational soccer programming will continue separately under the city’s existing sports policy and agreement structure. At the May 6, 2026 City Commission Meeting, staff received direction to work toward developing a partnership framework involving Coral Springs Youth Soccer (CSYS) and Fort Lauderdale United (FTL).
Fees & Facility Maintenance
Was a new fee added to travel soccer?
Yes. The updated travel soccer structure includes a 25% of the registration fee or $400 per player, per season facility maintenance enhancement fee which goes directly to the City of Coral Springs.
Why was the facility maintenance enhancement fee added?
The fee was established to help offset the significant costs associated with maintaining and improving soccer fields citywide. Increased field usage, particularly from competitive and travel play, creates additional wear and tear on the facilities.
This funding will help support:
- Field maintenance and repairs
- Turf and grass preservation
- Irrigation and drainage improvements
- Field rotation and recovery efforts
- Overall facility upkeep and improvements
Does the city profit from this fee?
No. The field maintenance fee is intended to help offset the significant costs associated with maintaining and repairing heavily used soccer fields and facilities. Over the past six years, the city has not received a dedicated fee from the travel soccer program despite extensive field usage. During that time, field repairs, maintenance, and improvements have largely been funded through taxpayer dollars.
The new fee structure helps ensure that the users of the program directly contribute to the upkeep and long-term sustainability of the facilities they utilize, while supporting safe and high-quality playing conditions for the community.
Does RLC LLC operate under the city’s user fee ordinance?
No. RLC LLC entered into a separate agreement with the City of Coral Springs in May 2026. The agreement includes revenue sharing based on registration fees, brand and name identification, and long-term program sustainability measures.
Fort Lauderdale United (FTL)
Is Fort Lauderdale United currently a recognized City soccer program?
No. At this time, Fort Lauderdale United (FTL) is not a recognized soccer program within the City of Coral Springs.
Is Fort Lauderdale United subject to the same revenue-sharing agreement as RLC LLC?
No. At this time, Fort Lauderdale United operates under the city’s sports policy and user fee schedule. If Fort Lauderdale United becomes a recognized City program in the future, it would be subject to the same revenue-sharing requirements as RLC LLC.
Has Fort Lauderdale United proposed any investments into city facilities?
Yes. Fort Lauderdale United has proposed an annual investment of $100,000 toward park facilities, along with the construction of a mini-pitch soccer field valued at up to $500,000.
Is Fort Lauderdale United taking over fields currently used for recreational soccer?
No. Preliminary scheduling discussions have focused on ensuring that all organizations have adequate field availability while also improving access to turf and high-quality grass fields. One of the city’s goals is to address concerns raised regarding field conditions and overuse experienced during previous seasons.
