Richard Kushner, Lance Corporal (ret.) U.S. Marine Corps.

Lance Corporal Richard "Richie" Kushner proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years, from 1981 to 1987. Enlisting directly out of high school, his service took him from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan, with two deployments to the Western Pacific Area of Operations.

While stationed at Camp Lejeune, Richie participated on the 6th Marine Regiment’s Drill Team, where he earned a prestigious Meritorious Mast for his performance. During his first deployment to Asia, he completed Jungle Environment Survival Training in the Philippines, followed up with field training on the island of Tinian.

During his second Western Pacific deployment, the bombing of the Marine Corps barracks in Beirut occurred, prompting his unit's immediate return to Camp Lejeune, where they were placed on 24-hour standby for immediate deployment to Lebanon.
