Memorial Day Ceremony

The City of Coral Springs, in partnership with the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs, invites the community to a special Memorial Day Ceremony honoring the courageous men and women of our military who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

The ceremony will include heartfelt remarks from Mayor Scott Brook, with Commissioner Joe McHugh leading the Pledge of Allegiance. A moving performance of Taps will be presented by Isabella Bautista, a student from Coral Springs Charter School.

This tribute will also feature time-honored military traditions, including:

  • Presentation of Colors
  • Wreath Placement by the Coral Springs Civil Air Patrol
  • Salute Volley
  • Honors by the Coral Springs Police Honor Guard

 

Keynote Speaker: Broward County Supervisor of Elections, Joe Scott

Supervisor Joe scott is the elected leader responsible for conducting all Federal, State, County, and municipal elections held in Broward County, Florida. Supervisor Scott's professional career began as an Army Officer after graduating from The United States Military Academy at West Point.

After serving in South Korea, he was promoted to Captain and went on to serve as an embedded advisor with the Iraqi Army. While serving in Iraq he earned a Combat Action Badge and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After his military service, Supervisor Scott earned an MBA from Villanova University and spent more than a decade in the private sector. Since he assumed his current role on January 5, 2021, Supervisor Scott has worked diligently to improve the capacity of the Supervisor of Elections office.

He has focused on expanding in-person early voting as well as ensuring that everyone who chooses to, can vote by mail. He has dramatically improved the communications infrastructure of the SOE office and was recognized for innovation with the Democracy Award for Best Practice of 2023 by The National Association of Elections Officials. In 2024, he was recognized by MIA Media Group as Public Official of the Year. Joe and his wife Shannon have been married for over 20 years and raised a son together.

 

If inclement weather occurs, the ceremony will take place at the Coral Springs Gymnasium (2501 Coral Springs Drive.)
