Teen Political Forum
High school students are encouraged to participate in Teen Political Forum - an open mic style forum for students to raise questions and converse with state, county and local elected officials about issues that are important to them.

Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen
Nancy Metayer Bowen is a distinguished public servant and the first Black and Haitian American female Commissioner of Coral Springs, having been elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, where she was subsequently appointed Vice Mayor on December 4, 2024. With a career dedicated to public service, Metayer Bowen has championed environmental advocacy and disaster relief, previously leading state-level environmental justice efforts to enhance community resilience. Commissioner Shawn Cerra
Shawn Cerra, a resident of Coral Springs since 1993, was re-elected as City Commissioner for Seat 2 in November 2022. Initially elected in June 2019, Cerra previously spent 14 years as Principal of J.P. Taravella High School before becoming the Director of Athletics and Student Activities for the School Board of Broward County. A longtime community advocate, Cerra prioritizes school safety and infrastructure upgrades in his role as Commissioner. Read more
Commissioner Joshua Simmons
In November 2018, Joshua Simmons made history as Coral Springs' first African American Commissioner since the city’s incorporation in 1963. A strong advocate for the Black community, Simmons created the Emmy-Award Winning video series ‘Conversations with a Commissioner,’ focusing on race, equality, and police practices, and received the Florida League of Cities Home Rule Hero Award for his legislative advocacy. Debra Hixon, Broward County School Board
Debra Hixon is a Countywide School Board Member for Broward County Public Schools, first elected in 2020. With over 30 years in education as a science teacher, swim coach, and Magnet Coordinator, she is deeply committed to student success. A proud graduate and parent of BCPS alumni, Debra advocates for resources and opportunities that empower students to thrive beyond graduation.
Joe Scott, Broward County Supervisor of Elections
Supervisor Joe Scott is the elected leader overseeing all elections in Broward County. A West Point graduate and former Army Captain, he served in Iraq, earning a Bronze Star Medal. After his military service, he earned an MBA from Villanova and worked in the private sector. Since taking office in 2021, he has expanded early voting, improved vote-by-mail access, and enhanced election communications, earning national recognition for innovation in election administration.
