Nail guns and power drills are the norm at Board & Brush, a DIY Wood Sign Workshop that encourages men and women, alike, to get creative using paint and power tools. Owner Jennifer Ferguson says woodworking is often seen as a “man’s job,” but Women’s History Month is a great time to highlight that women can do it too.

“I have seen over the years both a lack of gender equality as well as resources when it comes to women using tools & woodworking, Ferguson said. “At Board & Brush Coral Springs we strive to provide a safe space for women to not only learn these things but achieve a feeling of accomplishment and pride once they finish a project.”

Since opening in Coral Springs in November 2022, Ferguson has aimed to become a staple in the community, providing a unique outing for date nights, celebrations, and family experiences.

During Women’s History Month, Ferguson is reminded of the sacrifices and strides women have taken over the years to create progress, but also acknowledges that our work in gender equality is not done.

“I hope that my story inspires other girls/women that they can do anything they put their mind to, even if it's an area stigmatized as a man's job, Ferguson said.”
