Division Chief John Barry, EMS & Training

John Barry currently serves as the Division Chief of EMS and Training for the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department where he oversees EMS, Training, and Support Services. He has served in numerous roles throughout his career, including Rescue Lieutenant, Lead Instructor at Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety (CSRIPS), and Lead Instructor at Florida Medical Training Institute. At CSRIPS, he played an instrumental role in starting the first Paramedic Program and helped grow it into what it is today. His career began in North Lauderdale in 2001 where he worked as both a Lead Medic and a Driver Engineer before joining the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department in 2007.

In July 2004, Chief Barry was awarded the Sheriff’s Special Recognition Award by then Sheriff, Ken Jenne. He was also awarded Paramedic of the Year in 2006 and recognized as the 2007 North Broward Medical Center Paramedic of the Year. Chief Barry was also a recipient of the “Fire Slayer of the Year” Award in 2009 for his participation in saving a mother and son from a house fire.

John has multiple certifications in both EMS and Fire and has a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership, and a master’s degree in professional studies in executive management from St. Thomas University.
