Division Chief John Barry, L.E.A.D.

John Barry serves as the Division Chief of the LEAD Division (Learning, Education, Advancement & Development) for the Coral Springs–Parkland Fire Department, overseeing all in-service training and the operations of the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety. In this role, he leads firefighter and EMS education, curriculum development, accreditation oversight, and long-term strategic planning for one of the region’s most respected public safety training centers.

Chief Barry began his fire service career in North Lauderdale in 2001, serving as a Lead Medic and Driver Engineer before joining Coral Springs–Parkland in 2007. His leadership path includes serving as the Division Chief of Support Services—responsible for fleet, facilities, and logistics—and later as the Division Chief of EMS & Training before assuming his current role.

Throughout his career, he has held numerous operational and instructional positions, including Lieutenant, and Lead Instructor at CSRIPS and the Florida Medical Training Institute. He played a key role in launching CSRIPS’s first Paramedic Program, helping build it into a competitive and well-regarded educational track.

Chief Barry’s service has been recognized with multiple awards, including the 2004 Sheriff’s Special Recognition Award, 2006 Paramedic of the Year, 2007 North Broward Medical Center Paramedic of the Year, and the 2009 Fire Slayer of the Year Award. He holds multiple Fire and EMS certifications, a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership, and a master’s degree in Professional Studies in Executive Management from St. Thomas University. He continues to serve as an instructor, mentor, and speaker. In 2025, he presented at the prestigious First There, First Care conference on implementing ePOC in the prehospital setting.
