Window Signs

Window signs are permitted in all non-residential zoning districts and, when designed properly, can be a valuable resource for attracting customers. In an effort to maintain appropriate visibility and public safety, window signs should be geared towards pedestrians, not vehicular traffic. All signs shall be lettered in a professional manner and maintained in good condition.

Permanent Window Signs
  • Maximum letter height is six inches. First letter of each word in the business name may be nine inches if designed in a flourished manner.
  • All other logos, pictures, graphics, etc., excluding perimeter borders and stripes, may not exceed 12 inches in height or 18 inches if only a logo is used.
  • Sign area may not exceed 20% of the total window area for each business frontage or 21.5 square feet, whichever is less. (See Figure 1)
  • Perimeter borders, stripes and banding are allowed but will count against the allowable total window signage area.
Temporary Window Signs
  • May not exceed fifteen (15) percent of the total window area and may be posted on the window surface for a period of fourteen (14) days.
  • One illuminated window sign is allowed per business, max size is 2x3 ft. Signs are not permitted to flash or scroll.
  • Except in the Downtown Mixed Use (DT-MU) zoning district, bare bulb neon, bare bulb, or flashing light sources are prohibited as a light source. No exposed neon tubing is allowed.
