Temporary Signs

The City of Coral Springs is pleased to allow businesses to utilize temporary signage that is displayed within the city's guidelines. See below for a list of guidelines for the most commonly used types of signs. For a complete list, please see Chapter 18, Section 1806 of the city's Land Development Code.

Temporary Window Signs

  • May not exceed fifteen (15) percent of the total window area and may be posted on the window surface for a period of fourteen (14) days.
  • One illuminated window sign is allowed per business, max size is 2x3 ft. Signs are not permitted to flash or scroll.
  • Except in the Downtown Mixed Use (DT-MU) zoning district, bare bulb neon, bare bulb, or flashing light sources are prohibited as a light source. No exposed neon tubing is allowed.
Temporary Rights-of-Way Signs

In addition to those temporary signs permitted in accordance with subsections 1806(1) and 1806(2), temporary rights-of-way signs shall also be permitted in accordance with the following requirements:

  • A person shall be able to display up to six (6) temporary rights-of-way signs in accordance with the provisions of this section.
  • Temporary rights-of-way sign size shall not exceed eighteen (18) by twenty-four (24) inches.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs shall be professionally made of corrugated plastic, aluminum or steel.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs' support posts shall be made of aluminum or steel. No wooden posts shall be permitted.
  • A maximum of five (5) temporary rights-of-way signs shall be permitted within the public rights-of-way of any two (2) lane street bounded on both sides by residential properties. One (1) additional temporary right-of-way sign may be installed in the public rights-of-way along one (1) arterial/collector roadway.
  • Each temporary rights-of-way sign shall contain a contact name or business name and phone number printed on the sign. Such contact information shall have a minimum character height of one (1) inch per character and be conspicuously located in the lower right corner of the sign.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs shall only be permitted on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs may be placed in public rights-of-way but shall not be placed in any road medians, sight visibility triangles, or in violation of any applicable standard of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs shall not be placed more than two (2) feet in height above the abutting road elevation.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs shall not be attached to any existing signs, trees, poles or other structures.
  • Temporary rights-of-way signs shall require permission of the abutting private property owner.
Other Temporary Signs
  • Construction Fence Banners/Signs. A property owner within the Downtown Mixed-Use (DT-MU) zoning district, who is performing a project that requires construction fencing shall be allowed to display a maximum of 5 separate commercial messages on said construction fencing which may be repeated on the fence around the site. Any such temporary signs authorized by this section shall be removed prior to issuance of the certificate of occupancy.
  • Special Event Banners. Any individual who obtains a special event permit or temporary use permit may display up to two (2) banner signs up to a maximum size of 32 square feet per sign for each approved permit.
Prohibited Temporary Signs:
  • Signs projecting horizontally in excess of eighteen (18) inches from the structure upon which it is constructed and signs that project other than at right angles to the building front.
  • Permanent signs illuminated from outside the boundaries of the sign unless the source of illumination is not visible from any abutting right-of-way or any adjacent property.
  • Roof signs, parapet signs, and signs projecting above a canopy, parapet, or roof of a building.
  • Human signs, including costumed characters or mascots whether holding a sign or not.
  • Signs attached to trees or other vegetative landscaping material.
  • Signs attached to or part of bus benches or bus shelters.
  • Balloons or any attention getting devices.
  • Signs made entirely of sign foam.
  • Electronic message centers.
  • Changeable copy signs.
  • Animated signs.
  • Vehicle signs.
  • Snipe signs.
  • Billboards.
