Amore! October is Italian American Heritage month. From fine Italian dining to Italian-made products and services, specialty stores, and more, Coral Springs is home to numerous Italian American-owned businesses that contribute to the thriving business community. Here are just a few of the local, Italian American owned businesses that are pasta-tively special to Coral Springs.

1. Angelo Elia Pizza and Tapas

Chef Angelo and Denise Elia own a fleet of South Florida-based Italian eateries, including Casa D’Angelo, Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar, and Tapas, and Angelo Elia Bakery Bar, with numerous locations across South Florida. Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar, and Tapas in Coral Springs, located at Sawgrass Center, has been part the community for eight years, serving gourmet pizzas, tapas, authentic pasta dishes, and offering a full wine menu.

Born in Salerno, Italy, Chef Angelo learned to cook in his mother’s kitchen using Old World traditions and home-grown ingredients. As he grew older, Angelo developed a desire to take his love of Italian cooking across the sea to the U.S. After settling in South Florida, Angelo and Denise set their sights on Coral Springs as a location for Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar, and Tapas because the city offers a diverse demographic, young families, and a central location. 2. Decoral System USA

Started in Italy in the 1970s as a family business, Coral Springs-based Decoral System specializes in providing a durable, VOC-free powder coating to various surfaces that gives it an attractive appearance and makes it resistant to corrosion. Clients include major manufacturers, architects, hotels, large buildings, and more.

After finding success overseas, and developing a new technology known as sublimation, owners Enrico and Francesca Piva moved to the United States in the early 2000s to establish Decoral System USA. They first tried to set up shop in Texas but found that the location didn’t meet their needs. Setting their sights on the Miami area, and “driving through all of Florida” in search of the perfect spot, the Pivas settled on Coral Springs because of its available space, central location, and family-friendly atmosphere. Sixteen years later, Decoral System USA is, not only thriving, but is also planning to expand in the city they call home.

Decoral System USA is located at 12477 NW 44th Street.

Doris Italian Market & Bakery has been a South Florida staple since its first location opened in 1947. The specialty supermarket serves as a bakery, deli, and grocer, offering an abundance of pastas, cheeses, baked goods, Italian-inspired pastries, wines, and more.

The Coral Springs location, open since 1996, is run by co-owner Gary Mulé, along with fellow owners, and extended family members, John and Donna Alfano, who also reside in Coral Springs. This family-run business is grounded in offering quality, fresh products, and Italian roots. In fact, both John and Gary’s parents were born and raised in Sicily before immigrating to the United States. The neighborhood feel of the store matches the family-friendly feel of Coral Springs and makes it a great fit for the community.

Doris Market is located at 2077 N. University Drive.
