Cities Forward Program - Cities Summit of the Americas

Coral Springs, FL –  The City of Coral Springs was selected as one of just 24 cities among the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to participate in the Cities Forward program, a collaborative initiative between the U.S. Department of State, ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, Resilient Cities Catalyst, and the Institute of the Americas, taking place now through 2025.

Selected from 129 applicants, the City of Coral Springs was chosen for its commitment to urban sustainability, resilience, and inclusion. Through the program, cities in the U.S. are paired with another city in Latin America or the Caribbean, to share local expertise and global perspectives. Coral Springs has been paired with Freeport, Bahamas, and we plan to work closely with their sustainability representatives to share ideas and projects that will, collectively, strengthen sustainability efforts.

“Sustainability is a local and global endeavor, and our selection for this program out of hundreds of applicants is a testament to our innovative and collaborative approaches,” Coral Springs Sustainability Manager, Dr. Andrea Lemaitre said. “I look forward to working with the four prestigious host organizations, representatives from Freeport, Bahamas, and other program participants to build strong relationships within the sector, learn and share best strategies, and bolster Coral Springs’ interests.”

Launched at the Cities Summit of the Americas, the Cities Forward program was developed as a transformative program to provide peer-to-peer exchange, capacity building, and diplomatic engagement to support cities’ sustainability projects. Through the program, sustainability experts hope to solve critical urban challenges related to sustainability, inclusivity, and resiliency.

Our participation in the program is in line with our strategic goal to be an innovative, high-performing, and sustainable organization. It also supports our Sustainability Action Plan that was launched in 2022 to emphasize our commitment to enhancing sustainability through a multi-dimensional approach, including viewing sustainable practices through a global lens.
