Commission recognition of community members with Dr. Peter Antevy Community Service Excellence Award

CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Dr. Peter Antevy, Medical Director for the City of Coral Springs, was recognized on Monday, September 12 by the Coral Springs City Commission with the creation of the “Dr. Peter Antevy Community Service Excellence Award” to honor his contributions to the community.

Antevy was most recently instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as the primary local medical expert and community liaison when little was known about the virus. His regular Facebook Live sessions provided answers, recommendations, and a calm reassurance to the community. He also provided guidance, direction and oversight when the city set up a COVID-19 vaccine static location and mobile sites.

Of the newly created award, City Manager Frank Babinec said, “The Dr. Peter Antevy Community Service Excellence Award is given, when deemed appropriate, to an individual, group, or organization for providing an outstanding response related to a community health crisis or emergency.” He added, “Any person or entity who has made contributions to a high degree, like Dr. Antevy has, may be deserving of this prestigious award and considered for recognition. I could not be prouder to name this award after a man of such distinction.”

Through his role, Antevy regularly provides 24-hour guidance to emergency service personnel, makes recommendations for supplies, equipment, training, and protocols. He also provides medical direction for the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety EMS program, the Community Paramedicine program, and the SWAT Paramedic program. Through his efforts, Antevy has helped raise the survival rate for both adult and pediatric cardiac arrest patients to levels never before achieved in the area.

“Dr. Antevy works tirelessly to make outcomes better within the field of pre-hospital medicine and within every interaction he has, and every task he undertakes,” Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Chief Michael McNally said. “His guidance during times of need has likely saved lives, and has certainly created a healthier, more informed community overall.”

Antevy started his current role in 2015 and has earned numerous honors since. In 2018, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians selected him as their EMS Medical Director of the Year, and in 2019 he was given the Ralph Marrinson EMS Lifetime Achievement Award. He has authored numerous articles for medical journals, lectures nationally, and is the founder of the Handtevy Pediatric Resuscitation System. In 2014, he was awarded the EMS Medical Director of the Year from the State of Florida.

Antevy holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a Certificate in Medical Education from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
