GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

Coral Springs, FL – The City of Coral Springs Department of Budget & Sustainability has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for producing a high-quality digital budget book that effectively and transparently outlines the details of the current fiscal year budget.

Receiving this distinction consecutively since 2007, the department consistently prepares budget documents that reflect state and national guidelines and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting.  In addition, the organization was awarded two special recognitions, one for special performance measure, and another for special strategic roles and strategies.

This year marks the first time that the department received the honor for their digital-only version of the book. In line with the city’s priority to adopt more sustainable practices, the digital budget book helped to save printing costs and lessened environmental impact. Director of Budget & Sustainability, Ileana Petrone, spoke about the honor on behalf of the team, and showed her appreciation for their hard work.

“We’re proud that the team continued to receive recognition even with the movement to our digital budget book,” Petrone said. “We’re still going for this award every year, and our new digital budget book helps bring more transparency to what we do every day.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional organization that serves nearly 19,000 government finance professionals throughout the nation. Nationally recognized strategies for effective budget presentation need to be satisfied by the Department of Budget & Sustainability to earn the GFOA award. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operational guide, and communication tool.
