Captain William Reid, Patrol Services

Captain William Reid currently serves as Alpha Shift Captain for the Coral Springs Police Department (CSPD) where he oversees Patrol Operations.

Captain Reid has served in numerous capacities since joining the department. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he supervised the Patrol Unit, Tactical & Gang and K-9 Units, and the Special Victims Unit. In 2006, he was selected as a property crimes detective where he investigated cases involving burglary, grand theft and fraud. As a supervisor, he also served as a member of the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force (Miami), the Broward Sheriff’s Office Multi-Agency Gang Task Force (MAGTF), and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).

Captain Reid served 13 years on SWAT, retiring in 2013, as the team’s Executive Officer. During his tenure he has also served as the agency’s Staff Inspections Team Leader, assisted in the development and implementation of the Civil Unrest and Tactical Support (CUTS) team, and is a FDLE Firearms Instructor. Captain Reid joined CSPD in 1997 where he served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and Master LEO.

Captain Reid is a U.S.A.F. Gulf War veteran having served as a Security Police Officer (1991-1995) and was an officer with the City of Pinellas Park (1996-1997) before joining CSPD.

He has received two Meritorious Service awards, five Exceptional Police Initiative awards, and five Team Citation Awards. Captain Reid was a member of the agency’s Unit of the Year in 2009, 2011, and 2018, was named Supervisor of the Year in 2010 (Tactical & Gang Unit) and 2018 (Special Victims Unit.) Reid was also the 2021 Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council Medal of Valor Recipient.

Captain Reid holds a Master of Public Administration from Troy University, a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Phoenix and is a graduate of the 75th Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course (University of Louisville).
